Good producers swear by their own mix of mellow beats, spheric pads and acoustic instruments. But what when the inspiration leaves you? Since mid June 2008 is a collection available full of ideas and inspiration especially for lounge music. It‘s called LouneOramA, comes from Ueberschall and was produced by the talented Danya Vodovoz. Ueberschall isn‘t an unknown player in the sample scene at all. The production of „Easy Listening“ a few years ago proofed that the team from Hanover has a good taste for chilled music. The new product LoungeOramA isn‘t completely different in style but convinces with a completely different handling. The Elastik-Player (VST, AU, RTAS and Standalone) allows you to change tempo and pitch and to create loop-variations. Body and soul was used to produce. No wannabe-cool soundscapes but lively e-pianos, real recorded guitars, bass and vintage synths and grooves are within the 880 loops and samples on this DVD. 20 construction kits that are moving between latin, jazz and soul and a touch of electronica. All tonal and rythmical elements are delivered seperately. That allows you to pick out the best parts and create your own arrangments. The special thing about the kits is the length of more than a minute. (...) In contrary to many contemporary trend-productions the library is not completely loop based. This 1.7GB sample collection from Ueberschall’s Nouvelle series comes wrapped in the company’s Elastik virtual instrument in multiple plug-in formats for Mac and PC (there’s also a standalone version). This system, as we have remarked before, brings both pros and cons: the instrument has some onboard controls for modifying the samples, which some will find useful, but on the other hand, you can’t access the raw samples, so you’re sort of tied to using it.

The library comprises 880 loops, all beautifully recorded, in the styles of lounge, downtempo and electronica and gentle Latin vibes. These are collected into 20 construction kits covering intros, outros, verses and refrains. Stylistically it’s very much along the lines of St Germain, Thievery Corporation and Morcheeba’s quieter moments, with a healthy dose of bossa nova and mambo thrown in for good measure.

Each kit contains three sections: the drums, backing and a mixture of both. Within each section are multiple samples where the constituent instruments can be singled out and brought in or out by clicking cells in the interface. As such it’s very easy to build tracks and the samples are both musically and sonically excellent – smooth, lush, warm and relaxing.

On the first view LoungeOramA seems to be very compact with only 20 Construction Kits. Those kits however are very comprehensive. Each kit is seperated into three subfolders: Mix, drum and backing.

Mix keeps complete loops from one kit that can be mixed and rearranged with different song parts. In this way a track can be created very fast. Nevertheless, you can‘t call that ”your own creation”. Those loops find their usage in multimedia- or filmscore or in a set of a laptop-DJ instead of musical production.

Drum contains all drum and percussion sounds, combinations as well as singleloops and -sounds. The beats are all programmed but do still groove. Thanks to the detailed structure you can easily exchange a snare or a hihat if you don‘t like the sound.

Last but not least the Backing keeps all instrumentallicks. The main instrument in this library is definetly the e-piano that was recorded with a warm amping and effects. All the other instruments such as synthesizer, guitar, e-bass, strings, etc. were recorded with effects like chorus, delay and filter. There is no dry version. The sound within a kit is very homogenous and creates the designated chill-sound. The licks are mainly longer parts with a jazzy touch which don‘t keep a solistic character. Each track is very groovy and moves between 100 and 120 BPM, so dancing is possible, too.
