Die Library beinhaltet 30 Construction Kits für den schnellen Einsatz. Komplette Tracks bis zu einer Minute Länge und aufgeteilt in die einzelnen Spuren sorgen so für noch mehr Flexibilität.

Score FX II ist in 3 weitere Gruppen aufgeteilt:

Auch die zweite Score FXLibrary ist für den Ueberschall Liquid Player auf Basis der Melodyne-Engine ausgelegt. Mit üppigen 7,3 GB wurde hier ein großzügiges Paket geschnürt, das als Ergänzung verstanden werden will. Denn im Gegensatz zu den eher düsteren Klängen des ersten Teils herrscht hier eine deutlich freundlichere Stimmung mit etwas melodischerem Charakter vor. Die Library teilt sich in vier Sektionen mit Construction-Kits, Solopassagen sowie Atmos. Die Kits sind für schnelle Arrangements ausgelegt und bieten Drums & Rhythm, Bass, Beds, Accents und Solo zur einfachen Kombination untereinander und zusätzliche fertige Mixversionen. Alle Sounds sind markant und ausdrucksstark bearbeitet. Eine Kategorisierung wurde dabei mit verständlichen Begriffen vorgenommen. Es gibt viel rhythmisches Material und ethnische Klänge, die in synthetische Sounds eingebettet sind. Eine Besonderheit sind die Vocals und Ad-Libs sowie akustische Instrumente, die sich schön in die Atmos einfügen. Dank der flexiblen Engine können die Klänge schnell in Tonhöhen und Tempo angepasst werden. Mit extremen Manipulationen kann man die Samples zudem auch gut mit einem typischen Effektcharakter versehen.

Die Kategorie Accents und Solosounds sind oft recht scharf im Klang und setzen sich so selbst bei geringer Lautstärke noch durch. Dafür ist hier öfter eine Nachbearbeitung mit einem externen Filter sinnvoll, um die Sounds an die überwiegend softe Stimmung des Materials anzupassen.

Einen wirklich roten Faden gibt es in diesem riesigen Soundpool kaum, recht verschieden fallen die Stimmungen der Samples aus. Allenfalls „soft“ könnte als Oberbegriff dieser Library dienen – ein Begriff, der dann wiederum von entspannt über verträumt bis melancholisch reicht.

Regular readers of our sample library reviews might be forgiven for thinking that Ueberschall’s Score FX II is just the same as the original Score FX library, which I reviewed back in the March 2009 issue of Sound On Sound. Well, yes and no. Yes, it is a Liquid Instruments library and, yes, it is aimed at those producing music for film, TV or similar applications. And, while it also has its fair share of atmospheric beds, accents and rhythmic loops, there are three features of this newer library that make it somewhat different from the earlier title. First, the musical moods are less dark and scary, second, greater emphasis is placed on the construction kits and, third (and probably most significant), Score FX II features more melodic elements. This last difference means that this library can, if users so wish, be used to create ‘cues with a tune’ from just the samples provided.

The 7GB of sample material is organised into five basic sections: construction kits, groove patterns, instrument licks, accents, and ambient beds. The first of these dominates, with 30 full kits provided. Titles such as ‘Sleeplessness’, ‘Midnight Sky’ and ‘Forgiveness’ give a good idea of the style of the material. The moods are more gentle than the original collection, with strong rhythmic elements (but avoiding a traditional drum kit). There is a definite ‘world’ or ‘ethnic’ feel to many of the kits, and I was reminded of some of Robbie Robertson’s Native American material in places, while other kits had a more obvious eastern influence. Within each kit plenty of loops are provided, with sub-sections for accents, bass, beds, drums, rhythmic elements and solo instruments. The last include atmospheric piano, acoustic guitar and some beautifully evocative duduk playing. The Melodyne-based phrase editing of the Liquid Instruments front end provides considerable extra flexibility with this melodic material.

Aside from the construction kits, the other sections are all well populated. I was particularly impressed with the ambient beds, many of which are both long and evolving. The groove patterns are also excellent, with lots of rather quirky rhythmic loops created with a very diverse range of instruments, featuring drums, percussion and more melodic sound sources. Aside from the piano and duduk, the solo instruments section also includes sopilka (a Ukrainian flute-like instrument) and vocal phrases. The vocals are split into soprano, tenor and child groups and are mostly vocalised vowel sounds.

Like the original release, Score FX II packs in a lot of content. The material is excellent and, providing you are happy to use the Liquid Instrument front-end, there is plenty here to interest media composers looking for some fresh inspiration.

Fazit

Wer suchet, der findet kann man hier nur sagen. Ganz ohne Editieren geht es natürlich nicht, aber wer sich musikalisch betätigen will, ohne einen großen Produktionsaufwand zu betreiben, ist bei den "Liquid Instruments" gut aufgehoben.  Darauf haben nur Besitzer des Melodyne Studio Zugriff. Vor allen Dingen, wenn es schnell gehen soll und ein Sounddesign Track dringend benötigt wird, bewegt man sich auf der sicheren Seite. Die Klänge sind sehr gut produziert, wie man es von Ueberschall auch gewohnt ist. Der Ideenreichtum der Library ist etwas durchwachsen und überrascht so manches Mal und manchmal enttäuscht sie auch ein wenig. Gewisse Klänge erzeugen bei mir eine gewisse Erwartungshaltung, die in anderen Kitt nicht immer erfüllt werden. Das Angebot an Klängen ist in bestimmten Kategorien mal reichhaltiger und Bässe betreffend, mal sehr mager. Der etwas spitze Klang der "Accents" innerhalb des Kitts, relativiert sich in der Gesamtmischung etwas. Wer auf schnelle und gute bis sehr gute Ergebnisse angewiesen ist, der kann mit den investierten 149.- EUR für Score FX 2 auf jeden Fall nichts falsch machen.

While looking through the library you‘ll find a lot of inventive and heartful material.

Score FX 2 aims towards filmmusic composers and offers good construction kits and sounds that versatilely cover this style.
You can easily suite tempo and scale to your project - and this is a real and strong advance of this library. Very quickly you can create a homogenous background that has a significant musical expression. The reason is that most of the samples were recorded with a feeling for a certain mood. A lot of sounds do have their own intimate personality.

The potential functions of the Liquid engine are not exhausted at all. Most of the polyphonic samples do not take use of the monophonic algorithm. Besides that it does not make sense at all to transpose parts of an atmo-pad.
Given the huge volume of this library the price of 149 Euro ist appropriate.

Beim Durchstöbern der Library findet man recht viel Originelles und mit Herz eingespieltes Material.

Score FX2 wendet sich an Filmmusik-Komponisten und stellt gut abgestimmte Contruction-Kits zur Verfügung, die diesen Bereich vielseitig abdecken. Die problemlose Anpassung an Tempo und Temposchwankungen zählt unter den technischen Aspekten zur Stärke dieser Library. In kurzer Zeit hat man einen Background geschaffen, der in sich homogen wirkt und über eine hohe musikalische Aussagekraft verfügt. Grund dafür ist, dass viele der Loops mit Gefühl für feine Stimmungen eingespielt worden sind; viele Sounds haben „Persönlichkeit“ oder „Intimität“.

Die potentiellen Funktionen der Liquid-Engine wird man kaum ausschöpfen, denn für die vielen polyphonen Samples ist der monophone Algorithmus nicht ausgelegt. Ohnehin macht es wenig Sinn, Teilnoten aus Atmo-Pads zu transponieren. 
Angesichts des Volumens der Library ist der Preis von 149 Euro angemessen.
