The best thing in Goliath is an amount of instruments. Some of them are very useful and sounds very fine (strings, vibraphone, ethnic instruments, guitars). But some sounds poor, like drums, pianos, organs. Anyway, I like Goliath library and I find it useful for my compositions.
Goliath came with an extra DVD from Best Service with a software update (Great job Best Service). Goliath is a great plugin, however the samples are only recorded at 16 bit. I wish this instruments had been recorded at 24 bit as well. You can notice the difference. (depth of sound). Overall, great plugin!
I rarely use this virtual instrument. It does come with a couple of useful sounds, which I do like, but most of it is just unusable to me. That alone does not explain why I only gave it two stars though. Firstly, I need to install 3 pieces of software before it works: Play (the instrument itself), EW Installation Center (for activation of the samples), iLok License Manager (to licence the product). First I install Play, but the installer does not ask me for VST folder location. It fails to find my current VST folder and creates its own folder on my first hard drive for VST instruments instead - super annoying. The fix is easy, just copy paste the .dll to your own VST folder and delete the folder that was created for your annoyance. The issue is, however, that I never had to do this with my other virtual instruments. Then I install iLok Licence Manager. I double click on the executable and PACE License Support Win64 installation starts then tells me that a newer version already is installed, then it tells me to close my iLok Licence Manager and after that it tells me to reboot my computer. Next thing I open my iLok Licence Manager and it tells me that there is a new update available and suggests me to download and install it - back to square one, after another reboot. Also, it didn't let me copy & paste the authorization code and crashed twice. Play (the virtual instrument) is confusing, the navigation buttons: main menu, settings, browser, player and mixer change apperance depending on which view is open. It also seems like you always have to go to the browse page to load more instruments, so you jump between the player page and browse page. I couldn't find any 'next' button which would have automatically replaced the active instrument with next one from the instrument list. The sounds themselves sound pretty nice, at least some of them: the drums, the pianos, electric organs, basses and especially the brass section of the library is awesome. But the lack of keyswitches means you have to load multiple patches to get all the articulations you wish to use. Other instruments, maybe half of them or even more, sound outdated, they don't have enough round robin samples, maybe two alternating samples if even that. The pianos, I believe are the only instuments to have more than 10 dynamic layers. The bowed instruments are totally useless to me, they really sound like they are being played on a keyboard. Modern sound libraries are scripted and can play legatos or use other trickery to make the sound more authentic, but not this one.
This library includes "PLAY 2" as a Sample-Player
