This Bundle offers you the tuned percussion libraries from the
american sound manufakturer Soundiron. Seven different collections from special percussion up to rare instruments like the Whale Drum are included.
We spend a great deal of our time finding and/or creating new instruments that are not commonly known and the Circlebells are no exception. We managed to get our hands on a very unique tuned percussion instrument, which is made by an artisan in the San Francisco Bay Area and can only be found in a handful of local music shops. The maker makes only one at the time, so there are very few of them available in the world. The instrument sounds somewhere between a Gamelan, Glass Waterbowl, Prayer Bowl and something extraterrestrial. It is made of an array of 6 steel cone-shaped bells, ranging from 2″ to 3 1/2″ in diameter and each about 10″ long. Each note can sustain for up to 10 seconds or more and carries a deep blend of beautiful overtones.
The “Cylindrum” is a massive custom built tuned percussion instrument. It operates using the principle of open and closed air column resonance. The Cylindrum was designed and created using a series of mathematical investigations along with plenty of elbow grease and bloody fingers. The end result was a massive 20’ long handmade tuned percussion instrument with a pitch range spanning 4 octaves. Overall, it sounds like some kind of strange organic synthesizer morphed into a broad array of tuned tom-toms. It’s an experimental percussionists dream come true.
The contents typically contained in wine glasses have provided inspiration for musicians since the first time the two were introduced. The wine glass became popular as a musical instrument in the 18th century. We’ve interpreted the concept in our own particular way. Instead of just using a set of wine goblets we also used a martini glass, champagne flute, and after a happy accident, a broken glass.
We’ve captured sustaining notes and rubber mallet strikes for each type of glass. We then applied a variety of effects to create some great special effects patches. Pour your self a glass of your favorite wine, and imbibe.
Thanks for choosing our Kalimba! Also called a “Thumb Piano,” it’s a modernized version of the African mbira. Ours has a small balsa woos and coconut shell, with 7 steel tines suspended over a sound hole. The notes span about an octave and a half. It’s tuned with a screwdriver and since all of the tines share the same bridge, accurate and stable tuning is more or less impossible.
We reocrded it in 3 different environments: dry/close, small bright hall and large, smooth hall.
The Music Box:
The Musique Box is a complete collection of deeply multi-sampled music boxes with a huge range of extended content, powerful custom interface and cutting-edge performance features. We captured 11 different music boxes plus wind-up sfx, in a variety of environments and configurations, from bone dry, to concert hall, to submerged in a bathtub. We also manipulated the recordings to create a wide range of tonal and atmospheric sustains, pads, ambiences and special effect instruments, plus an array of 8 dynamic FX patches and another 10 custom presets to open up a wealth of creative possibilities right out of the box. Our goal wasn’t to simply deliver the most comprehensive music box library possible, but to provide simply unmatched creative tools that turn these humble music boxes into heavy duty compositional power tools for custom tuned percussion design. Next to the Musique Box, the rest are just toys.
This is one part of a strange collection of quasi-musical oddities mostly captured in one epic recording session somewhere around Thanksgiving in ’09 involving lots of Belgian beer, balloons, helium, oxygen deprivation, us and a few of our closest friends. While there is a bit of a winter or even some sort of pseudo-Christmas theme running through this library, it’s definitely intended to fit in well with content from Soundiron’s Antidrum and Mini series of libraries.
This library represents the beauty that can emerge when sound is captured in the moment, when inspiration and creativity trumps planning and organization. Drinking, merriness and sound design make wonderful bedfellows.
Welcome to the Soundiron Waterharp! We decided to sample this instrument deeper and more creatively then ever done before in the history of sampling. The biggest current Waterharp libraries contains approximately 180-200 samples, which is less then 1/15 of the new Tonehammer library, Ours contains 2,903 samples and 59 different articulations, divided into two main categories: Bowed and Mallets.
The Whale Drum (aka Tongue / Slit drum) is one of the world’s oldest known instruments. Tongue drums are found around the globe in various cultures spreading from Africa, Asia to South America. The drums were originally made from holly piece of wood, which were struck to make tones. It is one of the few instruments considered older the the human voice itself. Tonehammer decided to (re)visit this majestic instrument and deep-sample it once and for all. The end-result is a massive sample library containing over 1300 samples, following our standard 10/10 (10 velocity layers / 10 repetition).
*This library was originally published as by Tonehammer.
